Building up to Fluency with Antoine Marcq

16-hour face-to-face course in Saint-Petersburg
+ 2 hours of Advanced English Communication Skills

About the course

Our students need to speak, but something is holding them back. Whether it is lack of motivation, insecurity or laziness, we teachers are tasked with working with all students. How can we teach fluency in a way that moves all students forward?

The course “Building Fluency” answers that question and more, including:

  • Is it possible to push students to use complex or intimidating structures in English in their speech?
  • How can I teach fluency in a mixed-level group?
  • What structure of a lesson will maintain student interest?

The course is broken into 7 sections:

  • 1. Why our Job Is Complicated: Variables to Consider
  • 2. A Strategic Build towards Fluency
  • 3. Approaching Presentations with Fluency in Mind
  • 4. Establishing Student Confidence in Understanding
  • 5. Pushing Students to Use Topics Reflexively
  • 6. Testing Fluency with Effective Activities
  • 7. Building Lesson Plans

Building Fluency

Fluency of Accuracy

“Building Fluency” focuses on a practical, efficient approach to teaching that improves the ability of weakest students and engages the strongest students. At the end of the course, we will plan lessons together based on textbooks so that each teacher has a reference for how to implement the ideas from the course in his or her specific classroom setting.

The Advanced English Communication Skills lessons focus on Advanced Communication Skills and C2-level English. It may include one or more of the following topics:

  • 1. Persuading
  • 2. Sugarcoating
  • 3. Avoiding the question
  • 4. Gaining control of the conversation
